Have hiked the trails in this area three times. Twice through the woods from the mine to the resort using the hand tram ( 2006 and August 25 this year ). Great scenery and the hand tram is always fun to suspend over the gorge. Also took the Alyeska Tram up and hiked up Mount Alyeska August 26 this year. Great day hike.

Bill - Sounds as if you’ve discovered the beauty of this little town outside of Anchorage. Girdwood is truely a four season town of adventure and activities - Winter is a favorite for me, and I know we’ll be returning for more adventures down the road soon!
Did you photograph the hand tram experience? If you have a Flickr.com account or photos hosted online somewhere, it would be great to check that out!
Happy trails!

Scott - It’s taken so long to reply due to sialing, hiking, and other outdoor things here in Michigan. i’ll check out the Flickr.com site. Right now we’re in the middle of laying out our yearly Alaska visit for around July 4. I hope to take in more than one of the following: Hatcher Pass Mine hike, Bear Mountain, or O’Malley Peak(the correct one. i’m up for squeezing them all in but my wife is not as avid a hiker as I. In May my sons and I go for a five day 70 mile backpacking trek in Kentucky and Tennessee. Ahhhhhh. Too many hikes - not enough vacation!
