Before venturing out on a hike, climb, camping or recreation activity into the back country, one should seek some basic, advanced, or professional lessons in survival, traveling, camping and safety. While most of the mountains, trails, and hike mentioned in the Alaska Podshow “Hike of the Week” may appear easily traveled in our video podcasts, videos, audio files, pictures, or within the website - they can be quite dangerous. Check with guide services, state parks, national park service, or other back country authorities regarding the conditions before beginning your trip.
And remember, if you are out on a hike or participating in any outdoor activity in Alaska, be prepared! Alaska is a wild and often unforgiving place, so the more you know, the more fun you’ll have safely. The golden rule of climbing - If you can’t summit, turn back and live for another day. Finally, please help keep Alaska pure and clean by not littering. Take along a plastic or mesh bag for your trash and debris.
