While in Valdez for our RV adventure, we spent a whole day taking in the Alaska aviation experience at the 2008 May Day Fly-In. This event is truly a unique experience for the pilots and fans of bush flying and real Alaska aviation. Pilots fly in from all around the country, pitch a tent under their wings and spend a weekend enjoying beach landings, flour bombing and STOL competitions. If you’re into flying at all, this is a must see event!
Hope you enjoy this sampling of “kites on wheels”!

Wow, great comments. Thanks for the positive feedback on the show - we had a great time in Valdez, suffered sunburn and hours upon hours of take offs and landings. It was a great trip and I hope to fly to the show next year (even though the RV was great fun too!)

Scott, loved the flying episode! My father was a private pilot for many years and it brought back many memories.

Scott, I just found this podcast on my AppleTV. Outstanding. My father-in-law is a pilot and I am sure he is going to love this episode.

Great video of the Valdez May Fly In. Of course I’m prejudiced, as I was flying the Lake amphibian for the touch and go at Hitchenbrook beach.

Ah a touch and go! I wasn’t sure.
It was among one of the most exciting planes to watch hit the beach. By the way thanks for the email.. I’ll get back to you.
Cheers,
Scott

Cool stuff. I will do that someday. How about a similar video segment on float plane flying.
