P.S. They didn’t pay me to say this, I just thought I would share the news! -Kevin
A special thanks to Bank of America and the Alaska Airlines Signature Visa card for helping kick off our 2008 year. Alaska HDTV is dependent on sponsors, viewers and a dash of ingenuity to keep the production alive and kicking. Without sponsors and supporters, we’d never be able to get to places like Valdez, Wrangell, Chena Hot Springs, etc. Thanks again.

We’re still 110% go with Alaska HDTV and have committed our lives, family and careers to making this show a success. We love creating and sharing Alaska with you and hope that you’ll enjoy it enough to think of us and drop us a donation. Buy us a cup of coffee or a gallon of gas…if everyone who watches sent just $5, we’d be set for the rest of the year! If you have a PayPal account, you can hit the Chip In button on the previous blog entry.
Thanks again and stay tuned for a couple of AMAZING shows coming at the end of June and into July. We’ve been out and about and have some great adventures to share.
Summer is here and we’re geared up for quite a few trips across Alaska. Along with these plans come a great deal of expenses in fuel, flights and equipment. While our current sponsors and previous sponsors have really been a great help, the cost of growing the show to the next level is taking its toll on our wallet. Become a one-time sponsor of the show this summer and we’ll keep working to get all those great wildlife, aviation, culture and adventures produced for you!
Your contribution will go directly toward our travel, permits and equipment fund. With these funds we are already planning to bring you bears, airplanes, hiking, fishing and more local flavor shows. Help us keep the show alive!
These photos were forwarded to me from a friend and thought it was worth sharing with you all. I had a mixed laugh with a slight cringe looking at these photos. I’ve had my own face to face with Bears in Alaska, however there’s nothing I’d personally fear than the stealth nature of a Polar Bear.
Ursus maritimus (Polar Bear) are the world’s largest carnivores, and span several polar regions, which include Canada, Russia, Alaska, Greenland and a few more I’m probably missing. I’ve seen them in free roaming in the wild and more than any creature I’ve seen - there is a graceful nature that is both haunting and beautiful all at once.
I’d run, but can’t help but stare in amazement I guess is what I’m saying… Run Away! Run Away! Run Away!
Those who’ve known the Alaska Podshow or now Alaska HDTV for any length of may have noted the Polar Bear used as part of my branding. It’s seems cliche’, however truly our Arctic climate is changing. I’m not going to debate whether arctic warming is our fault or part of a natural cycle - the point is we need to be aware and do what we can to prevent and support these changes. At the end of the day though, I do believe we are a contributing factor enhancing a natural process.
Did you know Alaska Podshow Podcast launched on October 11th, 2005? Since then I’ve been sharing stories, my experiences, and favorite destinations around Alaska. Alaska has been the backyard of my family for five generations and so when I say Alaska’s in my blood it’s quite literal.
I never imagined this podcast would ever amount into any sort of value other than a creative sandbox for me to play. Today, the numbers of people who watch Alaska Podshow continues to grow steadily as it has from day one. I’m truly amazed at how passionate people are about this corner of the world and that truly excites me!
As a one-man band for several years, I recently had the honor of teaming up with Kevin Kastner, whom I met while collaborating on Iditarod coverage 2007 via his website dogsled.com. Several months of conversation, brainstorming, and sharing visions - Kevin and I formed a company called Perfect Blend Media, LLC. Needless to say we’ve been working steady at growing Alaska Podshow as well as other production ideas we’d like to pursue. It’s been an amazing ride, and we’re just getting fired up - hold on to your iPods!
Okay… So as you probably know Alaska Podshow naturally has some sentimental value to me, and while the name is going to change, the content and spirit of the show will continue to thrive under the new name Alaska HDTV. We’re not moving to a new site for a while, but we’re introducing the new brand.
So what’s in the name Alaska HDTV?
First it’s all about Alaska naturally, and isn’t the name “Alaska” just cool anyway? Second we love the experience high definition [HD] brings to the Podcast. Finally, Alaska Podshow has sparked some interest from Local Cable, and is currently available through TiVo. Alaska HDTV for branding sake gives us more room to play and expand into different productions.
So there it is folks! I hope you’re as excited as I am and continue to share the growth of what we’re doing. As always suggestions, ideas, and feedback for better or worse are always welcome – don’t be a stranger
Just an update to let you all know what’s coming up here soon on the Alaska Podshow Podcast for the month of February. We just returned from a great adventure into Alaska’s wilderness at called Winterlake Lodge. If you’ve never heard of this place, let me be the first to break the news… It’s truely a place of wellness, relaxation, adventures, and the very best in hospitality!
You might want to visit their website at www.withinthewild.com to just get an idea of where we were exactly. Truth is though - there is no website, podcast, television, or travel show that can possibly communicate what Winterlake Lodge has to offer. We captured so much footage - seeing all the eye candy you’ll certainly feel the calling to just go there yourself! Podcast coming in roughtly 7 days.
We’re off to Juneau Tuesday morning 2/12 to 2/13 to take in some adventures, and oh yeah we’re going to be sharing it all here on the Alaska Podshow! That Alaska Podshow we’ll have Hikes, Interviews, and some special guests you’ll definitely want to check out!
Fur Rondy 2008 begins on 2/22 and festivities end on 3/2. Alaska Podshow will be there to share this great Alaska tradition here in Anchorage!
Between all of that, and beyond lots of Alaska News, Stories, and Eye candy coming your way! Comments, feedback, requests, or just a simple “hello” to let me know you’re out there is always welcome.
